Drawing on three decades of Lindy Lee’s work, showcasing painting, photography, sculpture, installation and public art, ‘Moon in a Dew Drop’ is the most comprehensive survey of the artist’s practice to date, showcasing from early photocopy artworks to recent installations and sculptures. The Australian-born child of Chinese immigrants, Lee’s work expounds history, portraiture, and identity, and a focus on the philosophies of Taoism and Buddhism – exploring the connections between humanity and nature. Curated by Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, highlights include Moonlight Deity, a new installation commissioned for the exhibition.
Using light, shadow and scale, the work is mesmerising. Slow down and absorb Lee’s reflective, meditative works and her spectacular array of processes. In this major survey exhibition of the artist’s work, see how Lee melts bronze, pours ink, and burns paper and steel to examine ideas around art history, cultural authenticity, identity and our relationship to the cosmos.
Exhibition organised and toured by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
