Milan Milojevic: Once Was / Is: Revisiting The Archive

Hobart-based printmaker Milan Milojevic is known for creating imaginary hybrid worlds that echo the traditions of eighteen- and nineteenth-century European wood block designs with symbols of native Tasmanian fauna and flora.

Using archival inkjet prints then overlayed with traditional printmaking techniques, Milojevic’s visual language combines diagrammatic illustration, poignant symbolism, and vibrant colour. Akin to early biology encyclopedias or museological records, each work becomes a glossary of an alternate natural history. In this exhibition, a selection of historical collections from Milojevic’s catalogue is showcased alongside some new pieces.
