Rosella Namok: Regrowth

Cairns-based Indigenous artist Rosella Namok exhibits a new series of paperbark or Unchii tree paintings as symbolic gestures of both seasonal and life changes. Namok illustrates regrowth after bushfires and backburning as a metaphor for personal development and cultural reflection. In other paintings and sculptures, Namok tells her peoples stories of hunting and gathering in the Lockhart River region of northern-coastal Queensland, with colourful depictions of Mud Mussels/Akul, Mangroves, and Moieties (organised social structures and kin relationships).
