Shaun Gladwell’s ‘Homo Suburbiensis’ presents a series of new works, which give equal weight to the artist’s practice of painting and moving image. Formal and conceptual links establish a dialogue between a single channel moving image and a series of paintings. Paintings leaning on the gallery walls supported by skateboard wheels, and the video Homo Suburbiensis (2020), which features imagery of everyday actions like eating, running and dancing, continue Gladwell’s interest in performative action to creatively mis-use objects and environments.
