In Still life: more than just objects, René Bolten presents a new series of oil paintings that explore intimate connections to familiar everyday objects: such as an apple, shoe polish, bread, and a water spray bottle, revisiting and expanding their storytelling potential through unexpected combinations and arrangements like partially-eaten sliced bread with shoe polish. These are objects that Bolten has painted over and over again in different configurations throughout his life, loaded with memory and translated into paintings that carry story, humour and deeply held reminiscences.
“The beautiful exhibition has deeply poetic feelings of memory and nostalgia with delightful punctuations of humour,” adds Susi Muddiman OAM, Director of Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre.
