Simon Finn: Synthetic Surge

Finn’s latest body of work continues his research into drawing and a connection to digital technologies. The works in this series are based on data-fragments from a simulated tsunami event; a ‘synthetic surge’. Finn uses sequential images produced by these technologies as preliminary sketches. He extrapolates these fragments in a variety of media in order to explore spatial and temporal imagery.

‘Synthetic Surge’ is a collection of meticulously crafted charcoal drawings, digital animations and optical sculptures that reveal the water elements of a simulated tsunami event: the devastating virtual force behind the destruction. Simultaneous motioning towards assemblage and destruction allows Finn to question notions of temporal sequence and spatial simulation.
